Overview
The course examines the structures and functions of the human body, as well as common impairments relevant to the field of assistive technology. Underlying injury- and disease-related causes are also addressed. Drawing, among other frameworks, on the WHO’s biopsychosocial model, the course addresses how disability arises and changes through interactions between individuals with impairments and their surrounding environments. Particular attention is given to physical and social environmental factors, including attitudes and values, as well as to social and societal structures in the form of systems, services, policies, regulations, and laws.
