Kursen beskriver hur universum under 15 miljarder år utvecklats från ett Big Bang med osannolikt hög täthet och temperatur, till sitt nuvarande tillstånd. Kursen ger även en beskrivning av strukturen och utvecklingen av hela universum och dess byggstenar, galaxerna. Strukturen hos vår egen galax kommer att diskuteras i detalj. Fysiken hos svarta hål diskuteras med tillämpningar på kvasarer och andra aktiva galaxer. Teorin för Big Bang förklaras. Kursen ges på svenska.
