Basåret ger en bred introduktion i teologins olika områden och lämpar sig både för den som läser för yrkeskompetens och den som utifrån ett eget, personligt intresse vill fördjupa sin kunskap. Det utgör samtidigt första året i de längre programmen i teologi/religionsvetenskap. Studenter antagna till det teologiska basåret läser kurser som ingår i teologiskt program med inriktning pastor resp präst i Svenska kyrkan. Detta innebär att den som läst teologiskt basår kan fortsätta i något av dessa program.
