De studerande genomför under handledning med självständigt ansvar ett empiriskt arbete som vilar på vetenskaplig grund och inom ett område med relevans för det psykologiska ämnesområdet eller för psykologisk yrkesverksamhet. I uppsatsarbetet ingår att självständigt formulera problem, genomföra en vetenskaplig studie, bearbeta data med kvalitativa och/eller kvantitativa metoder samt att muntligt och skriftligt redovisa sina resultat på vetenskapligt sätt. Uppsatsarbetet sker huvudsakligen i par. Kursen är uppdelad i två moment där det första fokuserar på att planera och motivera sitt uppsatsämne och det andra fokuserar på att genomföra och rapportera sin studie.
