Overview
The course builds on the course Core Areas ofApplied English Linguistics and offers a more in-depth view of Applied Linguistics, seen from the perspective of the English language. The course is divided into two modules. Traditional Areas in Applied Linguistics, covers a selection of essential areas of enquiry in some depth, focusing on Second Language Acquisition, English for Specific Purposes, Discourse Analysis and Sociolinguistics. Dynamic Areas in Applied Linguistics, brings up subfields and concepts that are especially influential and topical, such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), genre analysis and learner corpora. The topics will vary to some extent, depending on the expertise of the teachers on the course and the specific interests of the students. An additional function of this module is to provide input for the students’ future degree thesis projects and to help students connect with recent developments in the area.

Entry requirements
90 credits in English including 30 credits at First cycle level 2. Furthermore proficiency in English documented by one of the following international proficiency test is required: a TOEFL test including TWE with a minimum of 630 (paper) 267 (computer) or 109 (Internet); a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency with an A or B grade; an IELTS test with a minimum of 7.5 (and no module under 7)
