<p>Hur definieras folkviljan i ett demokratiskt politiskt system? Hur kommer medborgarnas åsikter och preferenser in i de representativa demokratiska politiska beslutsprocesserna? Valsystemets utformning påverkar till exempel hur ett representativt demokratiskt system fungerar. Medborgarnas deltagande samt partiernas roll politiska processer likaså och innefattar ofta olika former av demokratiska målkonflikter. De politiska kampanjer som föregår samt de koalitionsbildningsprocesser som följer efter ett val har även de en stor påverkan på hur det representativa demokratiska systemet fungerar och bidrar till folkviljans förverkligande. </p>
