En central frågeställning inom mänskliga rättigheter är på vilken filosofisk grund rättigheter ska bedömas. ”Rättvisa” är en princip som är genomgående inom flera olika traditioner såsom liberala, feministiska eller postkoloniala. I denna kurs fördjupas olika synsätt på begreppet rättvisa i förhållande till mänskliga rättigheter och där olika kontexter kan påverka uppfattningarna om såväl ”rättigheter” som ”rättvisa”. Det diskuteras i kursen förhållandet mellan demokrati och rättigheter utifrån ett rättviseperspektiv.
