Kursen behandlar problem och teoribildningar inom den samtida matematikfilosofin. En översikt över matematikfilosofins huvudsakliga metafysiska, semantiska och epistemologiska frågor ges, såväl som över de mest tongivande teorier och lösningsförslag som dessa frågor och problem givit upphov till. Viss tid ägnas åt en historisk genomgång av ämnets utveckling från antiken fram till modern tid, men fokus ligger på de problem och teorier som dominerat matematikfilosofin sedan slutet av 1800-talet fram till våra dagar. Bland de teorier som presenteras märks särskilt platonism, logicism, formalism, intuitionism samt strukturalism
